The Henk Zijm Award for 2014 was given to Ajay Kumar, the former president of UniTe for his contributions to the goal of internationalization and integration at the University of Twente for his work in UniTe.
The Henk Zijm Award is awarded yearly to students, employees or organizations who have committed themselves to internationalization at the University of Twente in a very special way.
“The event was also a great opportunity to honor organizations and individuals that actively contribute to a better international environment at UT. Such associations or students are nominated for the Henk Zijm International award, which has existed since 2009. It was named after Professor Henk Zijm, who was Rector Magnificus of the UT from 2005 until 2009 and strongly focused on internationalization of the university.
Henk Zijm himself was present at the event and made a speech during which he stressed the importance of international cooperation.” – Read more at UTNieuws
On 13th June 2014, UniTe organised a stadium tour of the local football club, FC Twente. It was attended by both international and dutch students. They experienced the local favourite football team’s root and history and a behind the scene tour of their home stadium with an English guide.
FC Twente is a Dutch professional football club from the city of Enschede, playing in the Eredivisie. The club was formed in 1965 by the merger of 1926 Eredivisie Champions, Sportclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys.
On 04.06.2014, the board of UniTe signed the articles of association i.e. the statutes and bye-laws at the notary and also registered with the KvK. This marks a major milestone in the history of UniTe and a step forward in gaining recognition and providing a defined structure to the platform. With this step, the board of 2013-2014 also becomes the founding (legal) board of UniTe. All three of us would like to congratulate and thank all the members and well-wishers of UniTe who made this happen.
